About CPYT - An Overview

Centrestage Productions Youth Theatre was initially set up as a 'one off' production group, starting rehearsals in 1992 for a production imaginatively called “Centrestage 93”, which was staged in the Town Hall Centre, Eastleigh during February 1993. Pressure from the cast, however, called for a second production, which turned into a series of productions.Since then Centrestage Productions Youth Theatre (also known as CPYT) has done many more productions, which have provided the opportunity for young people from all walks of life to take part in well organised performance related activities.

By encouraging young people to obtain the experience of being involved in such activities, we believe many of the attributes required by today's community can be found, such as:

Self Reliance

Team Work

Self Confidence

Appreciation of Others

Commitment

its also good FUN as well!

We organise performance related activities throughout the year, including two major productions, one, during the February half term and the other during summer school holiday periods. The summer production takes the form of a 'Project in a Week' and is quite challenging!

As time has gone on, CPYT has diversified its provision of activities to enable most young people to experience the style of performance they are particularly interested in e.g. drama, musical, movement, dance, as well as play writing and stage management.

Rehearsals are held usually during Sunday afternoons, with mid-week rehearsals for dialogue coaching, character building, smaller dance ensembles, etc.

We also organise and run 'workshops' where those taking part can learn new or improve existing stage skills.

Membership of each project is open to any young person from the age of 11 years. Unfortunately we have to make a modest charge for taking part, to assist with ever rising costs, but we believe it's a sum that most families can afford.

General funds are made up from donations from local businesses, fund raising undertaken by Cast members and supporters, patrons and income from sale of tickets for our projects and programme advertising.

The Organising Team, the Creative Team and many assistants to CPYT give their time, enthusiasm, and efforts, voluntarily so that all the funding raised goes directly towards project costs, to enable us to present our young casts in the best possible way.
